SOUTHWELL (4)           173-4

THORESBY (0) 141

Another day and it was still freezing, but now add in wet as well !!

We arrived to find the covers on and a little rain, but within ten minutes the rain became very heavy and included hail. This must have come as quite a shock to our overseas guests.

The start was then scheduled for 2.45pm and Southwell won the toss and batted. Thoresby made the perfect start with Hazel getting a wicket off the first ball of the innings. But only a few balls later and the heavens opened again. After a delay of twenty minutes play was resumed, the Thoresby bowlers all worked hard in difficult conditions and on a near perfect pitch. Thoresby were fairly pleased with their efforts as they left the field to enjoy a superb tea.

After tea Ben and Callum opened up (Ben told a tale of how he had already seen 2 openers get out first ball at Southwell) this nearly became 3 as Callum was dropped first ball. Whilst at the other end Ben fell second ball. Callum’s reprieve was short lived and we were in trouble at 7-2. Hazel and Rich then put together a stand of 75, but just as these two looked to be taking the game away from Southwell Hazel was bowled. Rich was then given out to a very questionable catch, many people thought it had touched the ground before the fielder got his hands to it. Nige and Chesh then had a good stand that nearly won the game, only for both to fall in the space of a few balls. The tail fell away quickly and defeat was snatched from the jaws of victory.

A bit of a disapointing result on another very poor day for cricket.

Let’s hope the weather warms up for next weekend’s games!!!!
