Thoresby    147-7  (0 pts)

Papplewick  148-4 (4 pts)

This was always going to be a difficult game with a very weakened team being fielded.

Nige won the toss and had no hesitation in batting , even on a damp pitch. Nige was the first to go after an opening stand of 21 with Callum. David ‘Hazel’ Irvine was next to fall to the same bowler. Callum’s long innings came to an end and it was left to Rich and Chesh to post the one decent stand of the innings. Chesh fell trying to push the score along which brought Martin (THE GAFFA) Betts to the crease for the first time in twenty five years. He managed to hang around, much to the annoyance of Papplewick’s young bok who had to resort to bouncers to try and remove Martin. Rich went to his first fifty for the club and remained unbeaten as the innings closed.

After a superb tea Rich and ‘Hazel’ bowled very well with no luck. Billy replaced Hazel and all of a sudden 70-0 became 90-4 as he took 3 wickets and a run out to give us a chance of victory. But the chance went with a close (not) run out going against us. Papplewick cruised to victory with 7 overs remaining as the bulk of the team looked forward to their big night on the town.

Not a great performance but a couple of big pluses were Rich’s splendid innings and Billy’s display of slow bowling (He even turned one!!).
