Thoresby                    165-6  (4 pts)

Notts & Arnold Ams  134-9  (0 pts)

On a chilly spring day and with the ground looking very good, despite Friday’s monsoon, the 2005 season got underway.

Arnold won the toss and elected to field, fearing the icy post tea weather. Birkett and Hope started off very steadily and took the score to 30 before Hope fell to a good delivery. Irvine struggled a little on the very slow pitch before also falling to a good ‘un. Birkett fell one short of a fifty and it was left to Chesh to shepherd the innings through to its close.

In reply Arnold found it very difficult against the superb bowling of Irvine and Willis senior, both claiming early wickets. Lippeatt and old man Evans, back to his best, claimed three more wickets to leave Arnold in trouble at 30-5. At this point the bowling was rotated and Martin played a number of good shots to claim a consolation fifty. Callum and Richie were brought into the attack and took two wickets each.

This was a pleasing early season display with all the team taking an active part.

Highlights:       BIRKETT   49   CHESHIRE  64no  HOPE 2-13  FLINTON 2-13   LIPPEATT  2-14
