Woodsetts (14)                      158 for 7

Thoresby Colliery II (7)         157 for 6

Once again Thoresby’s batting proved inadequate in chasing a modest total. Only Stuart Evans, with an excellent 82, could muster any consistency against the accuracy of Dye.

Earlier Bateman and Parker had looked like putting on millions for Woodsetts’ third wicket and skipper Woods, having just rested Stuart from his opening spell, was about to turn back to him. A surprise call-up for Halfpenny, more to give Evans a prolonged rest than anything, produced a handy spell with the overhead conditions in his favour. A total of 158 should certainly have been within our grasp.

But after Evans snr’s departure only brother Dave looked like getting us close. This he did with such aplomb as to require three off the final ball for a tie, four for a win. A heave to long on produced 2 runs but with some hesitation, and then confusion, the umpire called “Time” before Dave could complete his third run.

To be honest, after supporting Stuart so poorly, we got what we deserved from the game.
