NOTTS. & ARNOLD AMATEUR III (0)    101 for 8

THORESBY COLLIERY II (15)                 103 for 2

This was a day that would be more memorable for its after-match convivialities than the cricket itself.

Notts & Arnold offered little resistance all round. Only Leonard, of the early NAA batters could muster a score before trying to wipe Norm over cow-corner and getting bowled. Youngster Marshall grew and grew in confidence and did really well to be not out at the end on 35; final score being 101-8 with Thoresby somewhat frustrated at not taking all 10 wickets on this flat and dead track.

Halfpenny and Evans moved steadily but inexorably towards their total. Beresford was quite swift and dangerous early on but went for runs. Martin bowled a tidy spell but still offered scoring opportunities. As the target remaining reached 20, the sight of Hutchinson padded up brought much merriment to proceedings. Halfpenny swatted a couple more fours then got himself stumped, but Hutch was not up to the job as he was unsympathetically given out LBW off the underside of his box!

Evans and Chatterton saw it through to the end and 15 points.

The most remarkable event of the day, however, had nothing to do with cricket and everything to do with Mick being unable to recognise his own clothes, albeit in an enclosed space. Tell me, reader; how is it possible to dress yourself for well over 50 years but still put on none of your own socks or shoes after a game? Solve this conundrum, reader; your feet are size 9 but you put on a pair of size 12’s and think they’re comfortable! And how would Brian manage to get home in Mick’s dancing shoes?

How remarkable a team is this?
