CUCKNEY II (1)                                 135 all out

THORESBY COLLIERY II (20)        136 for 1

Cuckney’s ‘hit or bust’ policy did them no favours against the accuracy of Stuart Evans and the rest of the Thoresby attack. After Stu had taken the important early wickets of Deeman and Ostler, Hutchy got in on the act having Goff well taken at square leg by Dave ‘Velvet Thighs’ Garden.

Only three batsmen, all youngsters, could manage double figures. Ullyot played some tremendous shots all around the wicket but, looking for a third boundary on the trot from Evans, got too ambitious and was bowled. The tall Riley hit well down the ground but fell in the same way. Bostock followed his family traditions by clearing his left leg out of the way and hitting well through the line, but was undone by Woody.

Altogether, leaving more than seven overs to bowl wasn’t the best use of Cuckney’s resources.

After tea Halfpenny and Evans set about wearing down the bowling attack. Mosgrove bowled with good pace but gave away the occasional four to keep the score ticking. Riley moved the ball well through the air, Willis and Haywood were tight but not dangerous. As the partnership built at an even pace – 50 off 14 overs, 100 off 28 overs - the Cuckney heads dropped a little. Thank goodness they weren’t aware of the previous week’s performance!

Stuart was well taken at slip by Ullyot off the accurate Goff. But Mick Case continued his rich vein of form and helped Halfpenny to a successful and early finish.
