NOTTS. & ARNOLD AMATEUR (5)        174 all out     (David Evans 32, Danny Nicholls 33, William Lippeatt 5 for 54)

THORESBY COLLIERY (20)                    176 for 8        (Martin Cheshire 39, Leigh Baldry 3 for 40)

Closest finish so far sees us gain a vital victory.

Chesh kept up his good work with the coin and asked N & A to bat first on what again looked a decent pitch. As has happened on numerous occasions Naeem and Say beat the bat regularly without finding the edge. The N & A openers rode there luck and steadily progressed until Say produced a superb delivery which Trewartha edged to Nige. This brought Baldry the stylish ozzie to the crease, it all looked very easy to him as he stoked consecutive boundaries of Billy, who had replaced Naeem. But just as he was getting into his stride a piece of quite amazing fielding dismissed him. Billy drifted onto leg stump Baldry attempted to paddle him behind square only to hit the ball too well, Ben ran around the boundary and jumped to take the catch as the ball was about to go for six. Flood came to the wicket and he also fell just as he was getting into his stride. Dancing Dave had just replaced Say when he made a double strike getting both Evans and Flood. This was a welcome return to form for the old man. Naeem returned and picked up a wicket before Billy got the last four wickets, three bowled and the final one another excellent boundary catch by Callum.

This was an excellent display of bowling and catching but the ground fielding was again average.

In reply Nige and Chesh set off well with Chesh being particully aggressive ( we were even wondering if his flight had been brought forward!! ). After eleven overs the score stood at 65, then Chesh chased a wide short ball and was well caught down the leg side. A couple of overs later and Nige fell to a smart slip catch. The scoring rate then fell dramatically as Rich and Farouq attempted to steady things. They added forty vital runs before again the two batsmen were dismissed in quick succession. Two overs later and again two wickets fell this time in successive balls, Hazel seemed a bit unlucky to fall lbw and Ben going to a great catch by the keeper. Naeem and Say then began to repair the damage with caution at first then beginning to play there shots. There stand of forty was vital but with just ten needed Naeem fell, five runs later and Say also went. This left Callum and Dancing to finish the job, Callum again seeing the team through at the end.

We really needed this win as we have no fixture this week and could have ended up well behind the other teams. As it turned out we were the only one of the top four to win.

It will now be a tremendous game in two weeks with neighbours Edwinstowe.
