On the hottest day of the
year we returned to the top of the league with a patchy performance.
After the long journey to
Gainsboro we arrived a little later than expected to be greeted by the happy
news that Chesh had won the toss. The sun cream and shorts were put on by half
the team and we hoped for a big score.
Nige and Chesh started well
against a workmanlike attack that was spurred on by the strange sight of a
keeper wearing no pads (this must be an ozi thing). The run rate was always
kept at a reasonable level as boundaries came at first on the leg side and then
all-round the ground as the attack tired and changes had to be made, for once
Nige was the dominant partner as he took a particular liking to
