On the hottest day of the year we returned to the top of the league with a patchy performance.

After the long journey to Gainsboro we arrived a little later than expected to be greeted by the happy news that Chesh had won the toss. The sun cream and shorts were put on by half the team and we hoped for a big score.

Nige and Chesh started well against a workmanlike attack that was spurred on by the strange sight of a keeper wearing no pads (this must be an ozi thing). The run rate was always kept at a reasonable level as boundaries came at first on the leg side and then all-round the ground as the attack tired and changes had to be made, for once Nige was the dominant partner as he took a particular liking to Downs bowling. It actually came as a shock when Chesh fell with the score on 110. But Hazel joined Nige and added another sixty before he was well caught by the padless keeper. Say came in to up the run rate but fell cheaply. Nige went through to his maiden Div 1 century in the forty second over. He fell two overs later to a weary looking shot. Naeem then unleashed some blazing shots in his rapid thirty before almost cutting the bowler in half with a drive, somehow the bowler was able to hold onto an amazing catch. Rich and Farouq remained unbeaten at the end.

In reply Marshalls always looked to take a positive approach with the win always being there prime objective. Van heuval looked particully good until Billy who had been brought into the attack early bowled him with a superb delivery. Say then struck with an unplayable delivery that the batsman had to fend away from his head. There then followed a good stand which was helped by some indiscipline bowling and sloppy fielding. This stand was broken by the return of Naeem who had skipper Down well caught by Farouq.

Another partnership then developed and just as Marshalls were getting in a position to mount a challenge Farouq made two vital breakthroughs with unplayable balls. Say then replaced Billy and clean bowled potential dangerman Davies with superb yorker. Naeem came back for a third spell and also produced a quality yorker as well top caught and bowled which mirrored the way he himself had been dismissed earlier. Say then got the two final wickets to make it three maximums on the trot. Although this was probably the least impressive as our bowling and fielding was not quite up to the previous weeks standards, although in fairness it was a very hot day.

So we now look forward to the game with Glapwell on Saturday which should be a cracker
