KIVETON PARK (20)                      236 for 0

THORESBY COLLIERY (0)           105 all out

Well this was a truly awful performance, maybe not even that good. Starting the day at the top of the table we ended up dropping two places

Chesh won the toss and elected to field on what looked like a very good pitch. Say and Naeem opened up and after Naeem’s maiden the first key moment of the game happened, Say bowled a superb first ball which was nicked only to see Nige put down the sharp chance. This was to prove a disaster, as Cooper played better as time wore on. He was again dropped by Nige, this time off Naeem, a ball that was heading to slip.

The bowling was then regularly changed in the search for a wicket with Steve being the pick of the bowling. Several times he found the edge of Aussie Colebourne, only for the ball to keep dropping in gaps. The next key moment was when Colbourne played a rash drive at Billy only for Chesh to put down the catch. Three overs later and he was again dropped by Naeem off Farouq. From this point the batsmen took control and only tiredness prevented them posting an even larger score.

At teatime we thought the score was achievable if we managed to get a decent start, but we would have to bat well.

As it turned out we got neither!!!

Spurr started and as on many occasions he got Chesh out early with a very good piece of bowling. Hazel came in and played a number of good shots before also falling to Spurr. Rich and Nige then took the score to 77-2 before disaster struck. Nige managed to hit a long hop straight to mid on. This was the start of some of the worst batting seen in a while as the last eight wickets fell for just 28 runs to hand Kiveton a resounding victory.

We can only hope that this will make us realise we can’t just turn up expecting to win, we all need to put that little bit extra in.
