KIVETON PARK (2)                        177 all out

THORESBY COLLIERY (20)        178 for 0

This game started and finished in chaos.

After Naeems family bereavement we were forced to make a late change to the team, which was then compounded by a mix up which led to Farouqs late arrival. Also is was realised on route that Nige had left his kit at our ground, luckily Phil was still at the ground waiting for Farouq. So Chesh won the toss and we took to the field with nine men, plus Nige wearing borrowed gear ( Cheshs spare pants with no elastic !!! ) . The last time we played Kiveton we dropped both openers twice as they put on 236. It looked like history was going to repeat itself when we again dropped both players, Say again being the unlucky bowler. But nige finally managed to hang on to one to dismiss Colebourne of Hazel who was opening the bowling in place of Naeem. The same bowler struck again to remove the next batsman. There then followed a quiet period before Hazel made it three wickets, getting rid of the dangerous Cooper. Steve had now replaced Say and he took the next two wickets. Billy was then introduced and as bowled with great control. As the overs started to run out he worked his way through the lower order , taking the last wicket in the final over. Hazel who came back on and took a forth wicket deserves special praise for a long spell which really made up for the loss of Naeem. At tea it was generally thought we let Kiveton get maybe 20-30 more than we would have liked as the wicket offered a bit of help for the bowlers.

Tea was the usual Kiveton feast, only downside is having to go back out and play. Nige and Chesh got off to a real flyer with Chesh finding the boundary regularly. Nige on the other hand was struggling to time the ball but was able to just play steady with Chesh going so well. The innings had started in light drizzle and as the game progressed and the rain occasionally got heavier the umpires were left with a difficult decision as the bowlers found it harder to grip a damp ball. The umpires decided to continue with the game. Though much sympathy must go to Kiveton it has to be said it would also have been very harsh on us as we were well on top before the ball got wet. With the light and weather being poor Chesh and Nige now set about the bowling, Nige finally started to find the boundary and the last sixty runs came off only seven overs. Chesh went to a superb hundred just before the winning run was scored.

A very pleasing result given that the day did not start very well and probably makes up for being on the other side of a wet ball against Glapwell. Another massive game next week against Cuckney
