THORESBY COLLIERY (4)           167 for 9

KILLAMARSH (18)                          171 for 5

Another day, another defeat, as the poor form continued.

Chesh again won the toss and decided to bat on what looked like a belting wicket. This was to be proved not the case as the Killamarsh bowlers extracted extreme bounce and movement. Chesh was the victim of an unplayable ball which bounced steeply.

Nige was next to go. Then Hazel played a poor pull shot and was easily caught. Steve and Rich again put together a very useful stand which put us in a good position. Stevie fell to a tired shot but his innings, which included three more big sixes, had given us a great chance of a big score. Naeem joined Rich and all was well for a while with Naeem quickly into his stride. But then disaster struck with Rich run out attempting a suicidal second just 4 short of a maiden fifty. A couple of overs later and Naeem also had a rush of blood to be stumped leaving the tail to try and add a few runs in the remaining overs.

After tea Famous took the new ball in Say’s absence and along with Naeem beat the bat on a regular basis, but the edge was not found.  This was compounded by the fact that a number of FOUR balls were put away easily. The Killamarsh batsmen played the bouncing ball much better by allowing it to bounce over the stumps. Naeem made the breakthrough with two LBW decisions going his way. By this time Burdett was getting into his stride playing some quality shots. Stevie replaced Naeem and made the breakthrough, Nige catching Basson low down. Then followed what was the key moment of the innings as Burdett played probably his only two false shots of successive delivery, both were top edges and both fell safe. He went on to remain undefeated as Stevie took two more consolation wickets.

This was a better performance than Saturday but still a very disappointing result.
