KILLAMARSH (0)                            84 for 9          (Steve Willis 4 for 18)

THORESBY COLLIERY (16)        85 for 1          (Martin Cheshire 30 n.o., David Irvine 34 n.o.)

This was our first visit to Killamarsh for two years due to their relegation then promotion. Many improvements have been made at the ground, new covers electric scoreboard and much improved pitch.

Say failed as guest DJ and Rich stepped in and saved the day. So we all swayed to Bob Marley.

Chesh won the toss and elected to field first on a bitterly cold day, which was made worse by a very strong wind. In fact I can’t actually remember ever playing on a colder, windier day.

Naeem and Say dropped onto immaculate lines as they did the previous week. Both soon captured a wicket before the Killamarsh batsmen dug in and blocked and blocked and blocked!!!. The bowling was of the highest quality but you can’t just let bowlers get on top like Killamarsh did and expect to get anything out of the game.

Naeem eventually took the third wicket before being replaced by Steve just on drinks. Steve also found a good line against the negative batting and started working his way through the middle order. At the other Hazel (Irvine), Billy (Lippeatttttt) and Dancing (Dave Evans) all bowled well without making a breakthrough.

Say returned and took a second wicket, also being inches away from taking the final wicket. As it was Killamarsh seemed quite happy to have survived the overs.

After tea it was soon evident that the pitch was quite good, the score rattled along and only Nige’s dismissal to a mistimed drive provided any joy for Killamarsh. Hazel played some superb shots including two huge sixes to finish 34 no. Chesh also made it look very easy as victory was achieved in just 15 overs.

So we stay top after our best start in many years. Saturday’s visit by Kiveton will be a real test of our new found confidence, but the big question is what music will we be offered by DJ Say??
