EDWINSTOWE (16)                        184 for 8

THORESBY COLLIERY (7)           170 for 8

This was a very close local derby, played in an excellent spirit.

Chesh’s recent good form with the coin came to an end with Edwinstowe choosing to bat first on a very worn pitch. The pitch in fact had been changed twice prior to the toss.

Naeem and Say started well and runs were hard to come by but somehow the openers Benson and Hooper survived. Bensons innings was quite strange as he survived appeals for caught behind and run out as well as being dropped and bowled without the bails coming off!!. Hooper was the first to fall to a superb delivery from "Uncle Bill" that turned sharply, Bill having replaced Naeem then produced an even better ball to dismiss Zakir. At the other end Steve replaced Say and quickly removed Brown lbw. There then followed a period of consolidation before Rich who had replaced Steve removed Smith. With the overs starting to run out three more wickets fell in the pursuit of quick runs. The key area of the innings was probably the last 3 overs which brought forty runs which was to prove vital later. This turned what was looking like an average score into a good one, as the wicket was breaking up a little and turning.

After an excellent tea Chesh and Nige set off well and looked in little trouble but with the score on 40 Nige was caught and bowled by Zakir. This was the start of a spell of eight overs where only six runs were scored for the loss of four wickets. Farouq fell in a similar fashion to Nige and Hazel was also out caught off Zakir. But the biggest blow was the loss of Chesh again caught this time off the bowling of Gombos. Stevie then started to take the game to Edwinstowe and along with Rich built a decent partnership, but as has happened so many times this season just as we were getting on top he was given out to a questionable leg side catch. Naeem joined Rich and also went on the attack only to fall again as we were getting on top. Say and Rich also fell in quick succession to leave Callum and Ben to try and see out the overs. This they did really well, in fact so well that with twenty needed off the last over Edwinstowe had the boundary ringed. This was always going to be too many and so it proved.

Again a very close game played in an excellent spirit. As the days results came it just underlined how close this division is and also how every point is vital. We look forward to the visit of Bridon next week.
