Scorecard,
table to follow ………….
On a day when there was a run feast throughout the league this was a game that could have been finished very early.
Chesh again won the toss and invited Cuckney to bat, Naeem and Say found there usual good line and runs were very hard to come by. Say made the first breakthrough, Nige taking a sharp catch. Two overs later and Say removed the other opener with a vicious delivery that was well caught by Hazel. This was quickly followed with a third wicket as Cuckney were now in trouble. At the other Naeem got in on the act with a superb slower ball ( he was so pleased with himself that he was celebrating before ben had caught it!!!).
There then followed a brief stand before that man "Uncle Bill" replaced Naeem and started to weave his magic. First he had Thoresby old boy and Cuckney skipper Sayer well caught by Farouq, then he quickly picked up two more wickets. At the other end Stevie had replaced Say and got the key wicket of Stroh who having been dropped by Ben off Steves first ball proceeded to hit the second at ben again. This time Ben made no mistake taking a good low catch. Cuckney were in a big mess now but Stevo started the recovery with Price, but after a number of lusty blows Stevo was caught on the boundary going for a maximum. This brought veteran Adwick to the crease, he proceeded to give his teamates a lesson in batting as he played shots all round the ground whilst showing good technique in defence. His partner Price now started to play shots and was very unlucky not to register a half century. Say returned and finally ended the last wicket partnership in the penultimate over.
After tea the Thoresby innings got away to the worst possible start when Nige was out second ball having a wild slog at Gurnell. Things got worse when Chesh was also out caught and bowled by the same bowler. This brought together Farouq and Hazel and this was to be a vital partnership. Hazel played spinner Gurnell with great aggression dispatching him to all parts of the ground, whilst at the other end Farouq saw off the dangerous Stroh showing great technique and courage as he was hit several times. He eventually fell to change bowler Stevo, well caught of a mistimed pull shot. As has happened so many times this season we lost another wicket immediately with Hazell being caught behind. Stevie joined Rich and was soon in his stride hitting two huge sixes, but he fell lbw just as the hundred was posted. But Naeem joined Rich in what was an unbroken partnership. The two played with great maturity waiting for the bad ball whilst running very well between the wickets. Victory was achieved with plenty of overs remaining.
Next week sees a very hard game at Cutthorpe who are having a very good run at the moment.
